Georgia 811 Wins Flat Shiner Contest

Shiner, the real dog, is the Mayor of Duluth’s Chattapoochie Dog Park. He loves to get out and meet the people who live and work in Duluth. Since there is no way for one dog to be everywhere at the same time, he held a contest in preparation for Mayor Nancy Harris’ State of the City address. Flat Shiner’s contest was much like that of Flat Stanley’s. Participants could print out an illustration of Shiner and take him around their place of business while taking photos. The best photo and a write up was then submitted in one of four categories: “Who Knew?”, “Dog/Pet Friendly”, “Local Supporter” and “Most Creative”.

Georgia 811 entered in the “Who Knew?” category. While we serve the entire state, many people don’t know that we call Duluth home. We had Digger Dog come by and show Flat Shiner around. He got some OJT (on the job training ) from Whitney and Digger explained why you should always call 811 before you dig.

Winners in the four categories were announced at Mayor Harris’ State of the City address on January 22, 2013. Mayor Harris declared Georgia 811 the winner of the “Who Knew Category” and our winning photo was shown during her address.
