Governor Proclaims Safe Digging Month
It’s official! Governor Kemp has proclaimed April 2026 Safe Digging Month in Georgia. Industry leaders at the Capitol gathered on April 2 to commemorate the occasion.

Safe Digging Month Resources Available
April is Safe Digging Month, a timely reminder for both homeowners and professionals to contact 811 before starting any digging project.
To support your outreach efforts, Georgia 811 offers a dedicated Safe Digging Month resource page with ready-to-use materials, including social media graphics, videos, and more. These tools are designed to make it easy to share the safe digging message across your organization and community.
We encourage you to take part in promoting damage prevention this month and help spread the safe digging message. Please share how you’re recognizing Safe Digging Month this year by sending photos to FBowen@Georgia811.com.
New PSA Campaign Launch
We’re excited to launch a new public service announcement (PSA) campaign this month. In the damage prevention industry, there is often confusion around the roles each stakeholder plays in the safe digging process. To help bring greater clarity while also increasing overall awareness of Georgia 811 we are introducing our new “Connect the Dots” campaign.
We invite you to view our new video PSA (click here) and look for the ‘Connect the Dots’ theme reflected in our outreach efforts throughout the year.
Enhanced Member Services Experience
We are excited to announce an improvement to our Member Services Department. Effective April 1, 2026, we transitioned our phone system from our previous Interactive Voice Response (IVR) to a more advanced Intelligent Virtual Assistant (IVA). This upgrade was designed to deliver faster, smarter, and more personalized service to all callers, while streamlining call routing to ensure inquiries are directed efficiently to the appropriate department.
When dialing 770-623-5786, callers are encouraged to listen carefully, as menu options have changed. To reach Member Services, callers can simply say “Member Services” at the prompt to be connected to the next available representative.
Thank you for your continued partnership. We look forward to serving you even better as we continue to innovate.

Don’t forget that the latest update to the Georgia 811 mobile app is now available, offering enhanced features to improve ticket management and field communication. Know Before You Dig: Atlanta’s FIFA World Cup Preparations
Every month Georgia 811 highlights an educational topic in this “Know Before You Dig” feature. Follow these tips and share with colleagues so you can stay on top of damage prevention information.
As Atlanta prepares to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with eight matches scheduled at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the city is placing a strong emphasis on safety, infrastructure, and coordinated planning. These efforts will have a direct impact on excavation and construction activities, particularly in the downtown area.
To help manage congestion and ensure public safety, Mayor Andre Dickens has authorized a permit moratorium within a designated downtown “Activation Zone” from June 11 through July 19, 2026. This zone spans from North Avenue to I-20 and from Northside Drive to I-75/85. During this time, permits for construction, street closures, and vending will be restricted.
In addition, the city has launched the ATL26 Human Rights Action Plan, which includes measures focused on worker safety, community safety, and inclusion. As part of this initiative, enhanced safety protocols and coordination with local and federal partners will be in place to support the significant influx of visitors expected in the area.
What This Means for Excavators:
- Plan projects in advance to avoid delays during the permit restriction period
- Be aware of increased activity and traffic in and around the downtown corridor
- Continue to follow all safe digging practices and submit locate requests prior to excavation
With safety as the top priority, Atlanta’s proactive approach is designed to minimize disruptions while supporting a successful global event.
