Georgia 811 is excited to announce that the 2023 Georgia 811 Damage Prevention Summit will be held on Thursday, October 5, at the Gas South Convention Center in Duluth, Georgia. Join with safe digging stakeholders throughout the state for a day of education and networking.
To reach more stakeholders in South Georgia, Georgia 811 will also host a Damage Prevention Summit Extension in Tifton on Thursday, September 21. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for additional details, registration access, and sponsorship information.

Are you taking advantage of the changes made to the Georgia Dig Law?
As many safe digging stakeholders know, the Georgia Underground Facility Protection Act (GUFPA/“Georgia Dig Law”) had changes that went into effect in September of 2022. One of the updates increases the number of days before a planned excavation in which an excavator can submit a ticket. As we head into a busy dig season this Spring, it’s important to remember how these changes may help the 811 process work more smoothly for all parties involved.
When submitting a dig ticket, excavators have the opportunity to select a start date for the excavation that can be anywhere from 2 to 8 business days after the date of ticket submission. During this upcoming Spring dig season, we encourage excavators to plan their projects ahead and call in dig tickets 6, 7, or 8 business days before the planned excavation date. This strategy can help spread out the response time for locators during times of high ticket volume, and overall contribute to a smooth and effective 811 process. Safe Digging Month Proclamations
April is Safe Digging Month! Once again Georgia 811 will be providing an opportunity to sponsor your Utility Coordinating Committee’s (UCC) luncheon. UCCs can earn a safe digging month credit by securing a safe digging month proclamation through their local city or county.
Georgia 811 will award $250 towards a UCC lunch for UCCs earning two credits, and $500 to a UCC earning four credits.. Lunch winners will be announced at the Georgia 811 Summit and Summit Extension. Safe Digging Month Resources
Georgia 811 has a variety of safe digging resources available for stakeholders to use on its Safe Digging Month page. Resources include infographics and social media messages to share with your audiences, PSA and training video links, as well as proclamation templates.
