New Online Damage Reporting Launches September 24

Beginning after noon on September 24, Georgia 811 will offer excavators a new, convenient way to report underground facility damages online through the Georgia 811 Ticket Portal.

The new Damage Report is a quick, mobile-friendly option that can be completed from the field — no account required. Excavators will need their active dig ticket number to get started.

Similar to eRequest, Damage Report guides users through a series of questions to ensure all required information is provided. Excavators can also attach supporting photos and documents directly to their report.

Once submitted, the excavator will automatically receive a damage ticket number and an emailed copy of the ticket.

Please remember that reporting a damage online notifies Georgia 811, but excavators are still responsible for contacting the affected facility owner/operator directly. If the damage involves a gas or hazardous liquid pipeline, call 9-1-1 immediately so first responders can be dispatched to the scene.

Damages that are not eligible for online reporting can continue to be reported by calling Georgia 811.

Georgia UCCs Help Spread the Safe Digging Message Across the State

Congratulations to the Georgia Utility Coordinating Councils (UCCs) that helped secure more than 75 local Safe Digging Month and 811 Day proclamations in 2026!

Each year, UCC members across the state reach out to local cities and counties to request proclamations recognizing the importance of safe digging and contacting 811 before excavation. These efforts provide an important opportunity to share the safe digging message with local elected officials and communities throughout Georgia.

We would like to recognize the UCCs that helped secure proclamations in 2026:

Region 1: Jackson UCC, Clarke/Oconee UCC, Walton UCC and Hall UCC
Region 2: Newton UCC, Morgan/Jasper/Greene UCC, Laurens UCC and Richmond/Columbia UCC
Region 3: Fayette UCC, Houston UCC and Coweta UCC
Region 4: Berrien UCC, Colquitt UCC and Lowndes UCC
Region 5: Savannah UCC and Wayne UCC
Region 6: Pickens UCC, Cherokee UCC, Gilmer/Fannin UCC, Bartow UCC, Paulding UCC and Carroll UCC
Region 7: Cobb UCC, Douglas UCC, South Fulton UCC, Clayton UCC and Rockdale UCC

Thank you to everyone who contacted local officials, coordinated proclamation requests and helped bring greater visibility to damage prevention and safe digging in your communities. Your participation helps build relationships at the local level while keeping the 811 message top of mind.

Earn Credits for Your UCC

Georgia 811 offers UCCs the opportunity to earn up to $600 toward a UCC lunch through our annual outreach program. UCCs earning two credits by September 1 receive $300 toward a lunch, while those earning four credits receive $600.

Your Georgia 811 regional liaison will coordinate with your UCC to arrange receipt of any prize funds earned through the program.

Thank you to all of our participating UCCs for helping us spread the safe digging message across Georgia!

Our Employees Have Spoken: We’re a 2026 Atlanta Top Workplace

We’re proud to announce that Georgia 811 has been named a 2026 Atlanta Top Workplace, ranking #5 among 70 recognized employers in the small-company category (50-150 employees).

What makes this recognition particularly meaningful is how it was earned. Top Workplaces recognition is based on confidential employee feedback collected through an employee engagement survey administered by Energage, a leading employee engagement and workplace culture research organization. Rather than being selected solely by a panel or based on a company application, the recognition reflects what employees themselves say about their experience at work.

The survey evaluates key aspects of the employee experience, including whether employees feel respected and supported, empowered to do their work, connected to the organization’s purpose and direction, and enabled to grow. Organizations are evaluated against established benchmarks and compared with other employers of similar size.

In addition to being named a Top Workplace, Georgia 811 received recognition in five additional areas: Innovation, Work-Life Flexibility, Purpose & Values, Leadership, and Energy & Utilities.

We’re grateful to our employees for making this recognition possible—and proud of the culture we continue to build together.

Know Before You Dig: Digger Dog Is Coming to a Community Near You!

Every month Georgia 811 highlights an educational topic in this “Know Before You Dig” feature. Follow these tips and share with colleagues so you can stay on top of damage prevention information.

Have you met Digger Dog? Georgia 811’s safe digging ambassador helps teach children an important lesson: Know what’s below before you dig!

Digger Dog and Georgia 811’s Education and Outreach Specialist Sheneika Hinesman visit elementary schools across the state to introduce students to safe digging in a fun and memorable way. Geared specifically toward second- and third-grade students, the free, 35-minute interactive presentation teaches children about underground utilities, why it’s important to contact 811 before digging and how they can help spread the safe digging message at home.

Bring Digger Dog to Your School

Georgia 811 schedules Digger Dog visits throughout the year, including several upcoming trips to different areas of the state. Schools located in or near these communities are encouraged to take advantage of Digger Dog’s travel schedule and request a presentation while he’s in the area.

Upcoming Digger Dog Travel Dates

  • Valdosta/Thomasville: October 26–29, 2026
  • Augusta Area: November 16–20, 2026
  • Brunswick Area: December 7–11, 2026
  • Middle Georgia: February 22–26, 2027
  • Savannah Area: March 15–19, 2027

Not near one of these upcoming stops? That’s okay! Georgia 811 has flexibility to schedule Digger Dog presentations outside of these planned travel dates and areas. Schools anywhere in Georgia are encouraged to reach out about scheduling a visit.

Help Us Spread the Word!

You can help Digger Dog reach even more students. If you have a child or grandchild in second or third grade, consider sharing information about the free program with their teacher or school. Have a teacher in your family or know an elementary educator in your community? Pass it along to them, too!

Safe digging education can start at any age, and Digger Dog gives students a fun way to learn a message they can take home and share with their families. Have questions about the program? Contact Sheneika at SHinesman@Georgia811.com.

Help us introduce the next generation to safe digging and invite Digger Dog to your school!
